Letters of Patent state: “…object of improvement district shall be
the acquisition, maintenance, and operation of works for land
improvement purpose and all matters incidental thereto.”
-
Original mandate of LNID was to regulate the pumping of water from
the lake for irrigation purposes in farm/ranch lands. Later the
LNID was called upon to become the ‘community liaison’ with Federal
and Provincial bodies to ensure flood control in times of high
water.
-
George spoke to the need for LNID as a ‘watchdog’ for water levels,
future flood control, and liaison with government agents/bodies. An
added benefit is the water testing, septic testing and attempted
website development for the distribution and receiving of
information to and from owners in the LNID. The LNID also hold the
water license which will allow for the pumping of water during flood
season.
-
Bob
spoke to the need to preserve the lake water quality and the
environment around the lake. There is a need to determine a
benchmark of readings and further understand the cycles of the
lake. This is where the current statistical analysis will help to
form this benchmark.
-
Betty
spoke of the need to ensure the resumption of water flow to the lake
and the rebalancing of the natural process of this water flow.
-
The
question was posed for discussion purposes: “If the LNID ceased to
exist and a flood situation was developing, what would homeowners
do?”
-
LNID
currently stays in contact with the Ministry of Water and the
specialists who can give information ahead of time for heavy snow
pack and the subsequent runoff.
